Creativity video

Currently in class we're watching a video that goes in depth about creativity. Special shout out to the German speaker, I don't remember his name. "Create an oasis of quality", he said. Makes sense of course. Here's how to use an oasis you've created; Prepare to tolerate the discomfort of being creative. Strangle creativity at birth. Before you make a decision, ask yourself when does this decision need to be made? Give your mind as long as possible to come up with something original. Don't be afraid of making a mistake. You have to risk saying things that are silly but you're being creative so technically nothing is wrong. Always remember a little humor is helpful so don't be too serious. You can laugh about a situation and it won't make a matter any less serious than what it is so don't get the wrong impression, just a little humor; laughter. Essential part of playfulness. Giggle all you want. Space, time, time, confidence. If you've put in the pondering time, you'll be fine. Always make sure the people that you like and trust are your surrounding rather having people who make you feel uncomfortable and try to be your " personal critic". If you don't know how to start, use random connections. Lastly, no one can really tell you how to be creative because that would contradict creativity from the start. Ahh, that's all.

  1. Was this the video by John Cleese from the Monty Python comedy group that's on Youtube at http://youtu.be/VShmtsLhkQg ? My favorite line in that was something like, "I will not deprive myself out of creative discomfort just to appear to be decisive". John Cleese is really an interesting person - search him on YouTube for everything from silly walks http://youtu.be/9ZlBUglE6Hc to serious programs on business management. --Dan Ream, RBC Library
